... Trimming Down My Usage on Facebook!

Image
It is amazing of how much time passes you by when you are not paying attention. It seems that two years have basically flew by me without much thought. For the past month or so, I finally took a serious look at my home with open eyes. It is disorderly...pretty bad. It got that way because I allowed Facebook's games to take over and monopolize my time. It was time to say for me to say to self, "Enough IS ENOUGH!" It was time for me to get back to the things that I love doing, to stop using things that sucked away my time, to manage my time better... for my self and for my health. I guess it is possible to say that I have been in state of denial... not of drugs or anything like that but of life itself. So, before this blog post I deleted all of the Facebook games that I was addicted to and is deleting "friends" that are not friends, just people who also play the same games as I did to have more "neighbors". I had 649 friends! Yikes! That list is...

...They Hatched!

Image
What hatched, you ask? These beautiful "ONS"! Click to Enlarge  I needed to add more "ONS" to my Etsy Shop,  Yesterday's Scraps, Tomorrow's treasures . I had so much fun in decorating these new order of "nekkid" Clover shuttles. It amazes me that as I use up my scraps of fabrics that it appears... it doesn't even put a dent to my collection of scraps! I wonder... if they just keep multiplying when I am not looking? I am looking forward for March 17th.. to celebrate one of my heritage. Happy St. Patrick's Day to Y'all. Please be safe. Catch You Later, ~Karrieann

...I Added Three New "ONS" to My Etsy!

Image
What are "ONS" you ask? I am so happy that you asked and I am happy to share that with you, with a story! The Story of how the "ONS" (Once Nekkid Shuttles) came to be.  Once upon a time, the tatting shuttles were feeling a wee bit... um.. well.. nekkid! The Nekkid Shuttles wanted to be pretty and not plain, not that there was anything wrong with being plain. These shuttles just wanna have fun!  They searched deep into Karrieann's box of scraps, scraps long forgotten. The soon-to-be "ONS" found a heap full of delightful scraps suitable for their "fun" purpose and using what was already available is a very wise thing to do! Karrieann was enlisted by the soon-to-be "ONS" for their fashionable attire! Love and patience went into each individual nekkid shuttles. Soon, one by one the nekkid shuttles bloomed into proud "ONS"  Now each tatter who proudly own an "ONS" or two...or three... will be able to tat without e...

...Yesterday was My Guy's Day!

Image
Yesterday was my Hubby's special day, his birthday!  Sooo, did we do anything special?  Well, we did take care of our errands and contacts. Then got some gasoline for my vehicle. Gas prices... OUCH! Then we went to a restaurant in town, one that we had never tried. I have no idea why we haven't gone there for the whole 7 years of living here! Well, we are pleased to say that Mike's Pizza & Sub was well worth the wait for this realization! Hubby and I ordered the Bistro Burger and fries with sweet tea for Hubby and unsweetened tea for myself. The burger was as big as the plate. Below are some pictures to illustrate that! Mike's Bistro Burger, step by step, sizzling on the grille! Let's get it together! All together now! ...borrowed these photos from Mike Even though I was hungry, I was unable to finish my burger. I ate 1/4th of it and packed up the rest to have at home for the next meal and the next... See, it is big! Bistro Burger is 3/4 ...

Image
...I have been busy on and off making curds and whey! Why, you ask? Because it is easy and pretty! Oh, but not this kind of curds and whey! This kind! Isn't this pretty! I mentioned that it was easy too This pattern is tatted up with one shuttle, Rings only! My cup of tea! I love and adore anything to do with  one shuttle and rings ONLY!!!!! Easy to take with you, no balls to worry about nor the second shuttle! This pattern is Curds and Whey by Mary Koniors and  this is in her  " Tatting with Visual Patterns ". I am doing this in size 20 Cordonnet,  the colorway is Karey Solomon's "Early Rising". I am sorry to say that my photos does not do this color justice! The photo with the ivy background is the closest  to the colors beauty. So far I have 18 inches!

...Mod Podge + Plastic Shuttles = My Fun Time!

Image
Presenting "Front" ...and bring up the rear!  I had so much fun that it was therapeutic! I had four nikkid Clover and one Sew-Mates shuttles that really needed to be dressed! Aren't these dressed shuttles cute?  I think no nekkid shuttles will ever be safe in my harm's way!  Muuuwahhhahahahaaaa *cough* Was THAT Dr. V coming through me?  Maybe it is all genetic? (looks to the right.. to the left....) ***another note! If you want to see what many others are creating with their Mod Podge... check out  Mod Podge Rocks! blog!!!

...Sometimes, A Mailbox Holds a Box of Sunshine!

Image
A while ago, I posted for a chance of a giveaway at one of the blogger's site. I was the lucky gal whose name/ number that was randomly chosen. Aileen's Wicked Tats sure has put a lot of goodies into one box! It was filled up to the brim, as they say. There were so much goodies that I had to separate them into smaller groups for pictures! This also includes the backdrop fabric that I used!  A cute pink piggy pouch (like a coin purse), very sharp pair of scissor, a clever pouch (dotted one, a square pot holder folded in half and stitched on side and bottom). Isn't the fabric colorful and pretty! The yellow bear face is a retractable tape measure, press the nose and it retracts the tape!  The green round gingham is a cute pin-keep, lid flips to reveal pincushion and enough space for holding sewing stuff with in it, the red thingy is a knitty bob thing-a-ma-jig (remember the wooden spools with little nails in circle and you made a knitted tube?) It...

... More From "A Tatter's Workbook"

Image
As I do more tatting, the better I get. I enjoyed doing this one. It went by fairly fast and not a hard pattern to follow while watching T.V. This shall be a pretty addition to a pair of dresses for a fall theme. pg.63, bottom Lizbeth 20, #100- FALLING LEAVES I am going to take a break from the book and focus on the tatting samples that I would like to submit to the Palmetto's Tatting Guild for their "Call for Teachers", to teach at their next Tat Days! Wish me luck! I need to stop dragging my feet and get busy!!!!

...A New Book That Surged My Tatting Fingers On!

Image
I have few books for tatting instructions ...how to Celtic, how to needle, how to shuttle and numerous pages of patterns for tatting from online, doily this, edging that, motif those. I wanted something more or different to do. After Christmas I batted my puppy dog eyes (hubby says they are) at Hubby for a book that I wanted for Christmas but did not get. He faltered (I am so bad, I knew he would) and said for me to order it. I ordered it and it arrived sometime last week. I have been tatting my fingers off with glee! After all, this girl here received lots of threads and shuttles for Christmas... from that sweet Hubby! The book that I had to have was,    A TATTER'S WORKBOOK, edited by J&K. Kliot Approximately 172 patterns, 112 pages. Includes corner and straight edgings, medallions, round doily borders, collar border. This is a most unusual and fascinating collection of tatting patterns as recorded in a New England notebook by ...

...To Chain or Not To Chain!

Image
I have been tatting my heart out since the Palmetto Tatting Guild's Tat Days this past year. I have come a long ways since. I have researched on tattings and tried many patterns... I still am, to improve my abilities and develop "my style". My daughter has become an amazing tatter in jewelry with updated modern twist. She just amazes me to no end. As my confidence grew, my style is also growing. Maybe I should say preferences instead of style. I have learned that I do not "like" to create things without patterns. I am not "into" making things other than doilies and edgings but if needed to will do the other things. I also am not at all keen on tatting with the ball of thread, multiple shuttles, ends and sewing in ends... I like doing one shuttle, less stuff to fuss with.  Now with that said.. I prefer rings and chains. So I had to make a compromise with myself and use the ball or use the second shuttle as the ball. Then again, I am falling in love wi...

...Jon's Magic Moment Snowflake.

Image
I used Jon's  Magic Moment Snowflake  pattern. I used my daughter's..errr ... I mean Dr. VonThreadmore's HDT size 20, color ..um I forgot! (Hey Kiddo..which color is this one..picture is darker than actual color) I think that means I should label my threads! After I blocked this tatted piece, I went back and looked at Jon's version. I realized that I may have over blocked it. Her center spokes are more curvy and mine are straight. I like hers better! I want to comment my thoughts and feelings about Jon's patterns. I really like her style for the continuity of tatting. While I am able to tat in "rounds" I find it very annoying to cut and sew in ends because then my once nicely flat work becomes a bit distorted from sewing in the ends. It is very possible that I need to learn better in the technique sewing in ends...but ends do annoy me regardless. Jon's way in many of her patterns online that she shares graciously, you start at the beginning and ta...
